Social bursts: preventing bandwidth failures

Whenever I get a large influx of traffic from a social source such as digg or twitter, I can usually tie it back to a recent post I had written. Sometimes my posts will get so much traffic I have to worry about bandwidth issues with my host. I call these sudden traffic changes, “social bursts.”

In order to watch my bandwidth, I’ve set up free website monitoring to make sure my blog won’t become a victim of a bandwidth crash. The tools I use help me to see if there are any possibilities for failure when I get a social burst.
